A new study by researchers at Johns Hopkins University have found that lockdowns in the early pandemic stages of 2020 reduced Covid deaths by just 0.2% while increasing problems of economic, social and political unrest.
“Lockdowns should be rejected out of hand as a pandemic policy instrument,” concluded the paper, while countering that non-essential business closures did at least reduce mortality rates by 10.6%.
The team added that lockdowns may even have exacerbated deaths by restricting safe outdoor meetings, thus forcing people into less safe indoor places.
